Low Back Pain
There are many possible causes of low back pain, including:
- Poor posture: Sitting or standing in a slouched position for prolonged periods of time can strain the muscles and ligaments in the lower back.
- Muscle or ligament strain: Straining the muscles or ligaments in the back due to lifting heavy objects, sudden movements or overuse can cause low back pain.
- Herniated or bulging discs: Discs in the spine can bulge or herniate, putting pressure on the nerves in the lower back and causing pain.
- Arthritis: Arthritis can cause inflammation in the joints of the spine, leading to pain and stiffness.
- Spinal stenosis: This condition occurs when the space around the spinal cord narrows, putting pressure on the nerves and causing pain.
- Osteoporosis: A condition in which bones become weak and brittle, making them more prone to fractures.
- Scoliosis: A sideways curvature of the spine that can cause back pain.
- Kidney stones or infections: These can cause pain in the lower back and side.
- Endometriosis: A condition in which the tissue that lines the uterus grows outside of it and can cause low back pain.
- Stress and emotional issues: Psychological stress can lead to muscle tension and pain in the lower back.
It’s important to see a healthcare professional if you have persistent or severe low back pain to determine the underlying cause and get appropriate treatment.
